The Situation

Why most content never gets cited

Proxidize’s blog ranked on Google, but AI assistants weren’t citing it. Much of it was redundant and repetitive, and most of it didn’t rest on research.

Take a typical statistics article, like Instagram statistics. It brings in traffic, but it’s usually a rewrite of what’s already out there, with fresher numbers. An AI model has no reason to cite it over the original.

The Method

Five steps from a topic to a reference

  1. Start with the data, not the draft. Collect every figure from several sources before writing a word.
  2. Resolve the discrepancies. Where sources disagree, find out why, and settle on the figure you can defend.
  3. Cite everything. Every number carries a source a reader can trace. That is what makes a page safe to quote.
  4. Give every piece its own angle. A problem it solves, a hypothesis it tests against the data, or information framed as an answer nobody else gives.
  5. Build pieces that others build on. One reference piece can anchor the next, and the rest of a site can point back to it.
WORKED EXAMPLE

Why a proxy’s headline price rarely tells you what it costs

Buyers struggled to compare proxy providers, because the real cost hides in fees off the pricing page. The Proxy Provider Market Map 2026 charted the market and 15 vendors. The Proxy Pricing Index 2026 built on it, comparing 14 providers on what buyers actually pay. Proxidize’s own site now points readers to both.

The lessons

What any content team can take from it

  • A list of numbers isn’t a reference. An answer to a question is.
  • Citations follow research. Rankings also depend on your domain, but citations point back to the work itself.
  • Expect one piece to dominate. At Proxidize, one page drew about 555 of roughly 720 AI citations (Ahrefs estimates).
  • Build in series. A reference that the next piece builds on keeps earning links.

The results are in the success story, Research-Led Content for Proxidize.

for your team

Three questions before you publish your next piece

  • What does this give a reader that the top five results don’t?
  • Could someone trace every figure in it back to its source?
  • Would you cite it yourself?
